2022 Earth and Environmental Science: Earth System Study Competition

The Geoscience Pathways Project (GPP) is pleased to announce the return of the Earth and Environmental Science: Earth Systems Study Competition for SACE Stage 2 EES students in 2022.

Students are invited to create a 2-minute video highlighting their community involvement in an environmental issue covered in their major external assessment piece.

Eligible students, in both regional and metropolitan SA & NT, are invited to apply for the chance to share in $1500 from the Geological Society of Australia.

The 2022 awardees will be announced during Earth science week, October 9-15, 2022.

The Earth and Environmental Science: Earth System Study Competition requires the submission of a video no more than 2-minutes in length including titles and credits highlighting community involvement in an environmental issue covered within the EES - AT3 - Earth System Study and open to all SACE stage 2 EES students.

It is funded by the SA Division of the Geological Society of Australia (GSA).

The video must address interactions of two or more Earth's systems in relation to a particular local environmental issue, concern, initiative, or successful undertaking that can be linked to topics studied in Stage 2 Earth and Environmental Science.

Prizes

There will be 3 prizes awarded to the value of: $1500
1st prize: $1000
2nd prize: $400
3rd prize: $100

Judging

The judging panel will use the following criteria to judge the entries:

  • The video addresses two or more interactions of Earth's systems in relation to a particular local environmental issue, concern, initiative, or successful undertaking that can be linked to topics studied in Stage 2 Earth and Environmental Science.
  • Breadth of thought on the topic, demonstrating how the Earth Systems Study has improved understanding of a current local environmental issue and/or has benefitted a local community.
  • In depth understanding of the interaction between Earth's spheres, science, and society.
  • Effectiveness of Communicating knowledge and understanding of earth and environmental science.

    The judge’s decisions will be final, and no correspondence will be entered into.

Requirements

  • The prize is open to all year 12 students currently enrolled in SACE Stage 2 Earth & Environmental Science who want the opportunity to share their ideas about their community and the world they live in.
  • A maximum of 1 entry can be submitted by each student.
