East Marden Primary School

At East Marden all children are taught to think analytically, critically and creatively. Our students both learn to think and think to learn. In this dynamic and ever-changing world, if children can think and reason effectively, then they will be well equipped to achieve success and satisfaction in all facets of their lives, and in shaping their own futures.

Howard Gardner suggests that each individual possesses a unique blend of 8 Intelligences - Logical/Mathematical, Verbal/Linguistic, Visual/Spatial, Musical/Rhythmical, Bodily-Kinaesthetic, Inter-Personal, Intra-Personal or Naturalist intelligence.

At East Marden, we know that intelligence is not a single trait, and we recognise that there is a range of intelligences and giftedness.

We use Gardner's research to identify preferred learning styles, to facilitate the provision of a learning environment which maximises the chances for each child's success.

Our Geosciences group has been comprised of identified gifted students who identify with the Mathematical/Logical or Naturalist Intelligences. These senior students then mentor groups of younger students in the Junior Primary Geosciences sessions.

In the next stage of the project, we aim to broaden the number of students who can develop their interest in the Geosciences.
