Small rocks, tweezers, small counters, magnifying glasses, tiny shore debris and anything else you may have that has been smoothed by water. |
Science background:
Smooth edges and corners of rocks, shells, glass and many other objects is a result of being rolled and tossed in water.
Learning sequence:
- Engage: This learning task is established as six stations, each with the necessary equipment. Students are shown the different stations and introduced to the idea that at each station there is a “map” that matches to the section on their recording sheet.
- Explore: Students move to various stations and explore the materials and complete tasks.
- Explain: Individually when required.
- Elaborate: Students are encouraged to start at different stations. Support is provided when required.
- Evaluate: Formative assessment through participation and written recordings.
