South Australian Museum
The South Australian Museum has two full time DECD teachers employed who develop curriculum and deliver lessons to years R-12 students. They are part of Outreach Education, which is a team of teachers based in major public organisations.
The South Australian Museum has many resources and galleries to support Geoscience understandings. Students can touch fossils of the first animal life on Earth in the First Life: Ediacara Biota Gallery. They can learn about Australian Megafauna and use touch screen technology to see geologists at work. A Marine Cretaceous gallery holds opalised fossils and enriches the student understandings of climate change and the evolution of species.
Students can also visit the Mawson Gallery. This gallery holds fantastic mineral specimens and also supports students’ understanding of Science as a Human Endeavour.
All galleries and collections have learning programs designed for them. These programs are based on the Australian Curriculum and SACE and employ TfEL pedagogy.
Please visit the South Australian Museum website for more information or contact an Education Manager to design a program that suits your students’ needs.
