Geoscience in the junior primary years can provide an ideal and exciting introduction to the world of geoscience through a “hands-on” approach. Young children have a natural curiosity about the world and an eagerness to learn. Ideal activities include making models of geological structures in clay and claymation, crystals and gems, visits to the museum and local geological field trips, digital story telling about classroom experiments with ice and model glaciers, volcanoes, fossils and giant ancient creatures or the Earth’s changing climates and shifting continents.
Examples of school activities on these pages demonstrate the sheer excitement that can be generated through engagement in geoscience activities during these critically important formative years.
