Grant High School

At Grant Earth Science is taught for one term in each of the middle school years. The students spend a day inside and around Mount Schank and also go caving at Naracoorte studying the limestone and fossil evidence found there. Geology is also taught at Stage 1 and Stage 2. In Stage 1 the students put together the Geological History of the crater lakes volcanic complex, there practical work involves  sieving, water movement through sediments and crater impact analysis. In Stage 2 the students visit Mount Eccles and Mount Napier and study the volcanic province of Western Victoria.

The Lower South-east is a wonderful location in which to study Geology with such a variety of rock types and geological features.  Hopefully the department can continue to expand engaging  more and more students in the fascinating world of Geology.
