Curtin School Hall SmallCurtin’s Western Australian School of Mines (WASM) has an international reputation for excellence in mining education and research, having received the maximum score of ‘well above world standard’ for earth sciences research in the latest Excellence in Research for Australia rankings.

WASM is located at both Curtin’s Bentley Campus and in Kalgoorlie, a dynamic mining town in Western Australia’s goldfields region. The Kalgoorlie Campus provides exposure to industry, as well as access to professionals from some of Australia’s largest gold and nickel producers.

Curtin 1As a WASM student, you will have the opportunity to gain hands-on experience and insight into rock and soil engineering fundamentals, and you’ll learn how professional geomechanics laboratories are designed and managed. The teaching facilities, which include a fourth generation ThoroughTec Cybermine Simulator and modern computer-controlled rock and soil testing equipment, are at the forefront of mining education in Australia.

Curtin 2Your integrated studies will provide a deep understanding of advanced mining techniques, and you will develop practical skills of significant value to the mining industry, including how to operate a range of equipment.

Curtin 4We offer undergraduate and postgraduate study options in mining engineering, minerals engineering and extractive metallurgy, mineral economics, mining geology, applied geology, spatial sciences and exploration geophysics.

With Curtin and state government investment in teaching and accommodation facilities at the Kalgoorlie Campus, WASM graduates will continue to be well positioned for success in the mining industry of the 21st century.
